Nearly 5000 Houses = More cars

Wokingham Unitary has proposed to build 3,500 homes in the former army garrison at Arborfield and a further 1125  a little further north in Shinfield.

People who want to go south will inevitably use the A327 that crosses the river Blackwater into Hampshire and the Conservation Area of Eversley. Lorries will follow the A327 to the A30 but cars are more likely to try and short cut along the B3272 through Eversley centre and then Yateley taking in a minimum of a further two conservation areas.

County Councillor David Simpson commented “I was shocked when Eversley Parish Council brought this to my attention as it had not been forwarded to me for consultation as I would have expected. Clearly this number of homes will generate between one to three cars per dwelling so even an optimistic view puts a further 5000 cars on our already overcrowded roads.

Hart Road Safety Chairman and current vice chairman of Hart, Cllr Colin Ive, whose District ward some of the increased traffic is likely to go through said “Without adequate road infrastructure improvements this is totally unacceptable. I have a duty to promote safety on our roads and this includes having a safe road system for our residents. This will not help.”

Parliamentary candidates Adrian Collett (Aldershot inc Frogmore and Blackwater) and Denzil Coulson (NE Hants) commented “This is appalling news for local people and without adequate infrastructure BEFORE any development takes place goes completely against everything we, as Liberal Democrats, stand for.
