Firefighters patrol Rushmoor this summer offering fire safety advice
Rushmoor firefighters will be patrolling heathland this summer giving out free fire safety advice in a bid to raise awareness of the devastation and impact on wildlife that fires in rural areas have.

More than a third of 999 calls taken by Rushmoor Fire Station are for fires which have started in open, grassed areas, usually caused accidently. These fires can destroy common land, wildlife and habitats.

Station Manager Paul Robson, Rushmoor Fire Station, said: ”Our firefighters are passionate about meeting with local communities and explaining the benefits of early 999 calls so that we can attend incidents quickly and prevent more damage to rural areas.
“This is a great opportunity for us to show the public the devastating effects that fires in rural areas can have and advise them so that they can become our eyes and ears this summer”.
Crews will be working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and Hampshire Constabulary in Aldershot to raise awareness of wildfires and ask dog walkers, cyclists and those enjoying outdoor activities to stay vigilant this summer and look out for signs of fires.

During the patrols, firefighters will take a fire engine out to heathland areas where leisure and recreation are prominent during the spring/summer period, and will interact with the public, listen to their experiences and concerns and provide fire safety advice.
The crews will be very happy, during these patrols, to talk to anyone who would like more information or advice on how to stay safe this summer and how to keep an eye out for fires in the wild.
